Unity

I was in small group and I was observing just the dynamics of everyone… some were singing and playing guitar in a corner, others chatting and others eating. And yet, everyone was quite comfortable with one another in what could seem as a separate cliques of groups. I was amazed at the delicate balance that requires the saying that, “we are in a small group”, versus a slight variation of “we are in separate groups”. And it reminded me of just how God had planned out unity as well.

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

– 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

I am reminded as Christians, that we must receive the call to serve him in the body. I am reminded that for myself, I am blessed with different gifts that enable the help in certain areas and others are gifted to complete the rest of the areas. Together, we work as a whole. And as a whole we serve God through what He has given us.

  • How have we perhaps looked at other people’s gifts and thought they are better than us?
  • How have we thought that we were better than others?
  • How can we realize that God has called all gifts are, ” the same God at work?”

When we can realize that we require to build each other up (1 Thessalonians 5:11) rather than tear each other down, then we can see the unity in Christ foresees in us.
